After the Miracle, Heaven Came Back

This Ijosin explores the first verse of Òdí Méjì from a thought-provoking perspective, asking a simple but profound question: What happens after Orun answers your prayers? Rather than ending with Olókun’s miracle of becoming a mighty river, the teaching focuses on the surprising continuation of the story, where Alahanrangunkan appears and begins asking questions.

The message reflects on why the Odu introduces an “inspector” after the miracle. Instead of examining shrines, titles, or appearances, Alahanrangunkan examines understanding. He asks foundational questions not to embarrass people, but to reveal whether they truly understand the sacred traditions they practice. The Ijosin challenges listeners to consider whether they know why they cast Obi, honor Ori, salute Èṣù, perform ẹbọ, and consult Ifá, or whether they have simply learned the outward actions without grasping their deeper meaning.

As the respected priests fail the inspection and a baby unexpectedly becomes a symbol of hope for the future, the sermon reflects on the responsibility of every generation to preserve not only the rituals of Ifá, but also the wisdom behind them. It asks the congregation to think beyond ceremony and to become students who seek understanding, ensuring that future generations inherit the truth as faithfully as they inherit the practice.
